There are two kinds of recordings. The first is a greeting message and the second is a voice mail message.
 
Greeting Message: The greeting message plays when you are connected to the prospect and is designed to buy you a little bit of time to digest the information on the screen. The other thing the greeting message does is that it eliminates any lag that might exist as you get ready to speak. 
 
The greeting message takes the pressure off of having to speak right away when you get connected. In addition, it helps create some predictablity around the connections. 
 
Voice mail Message: The voice mail message is a pre-recorded message that is left on the machine of the prospects we don't reach, and is a great way to cover a lot of ground in a short period of time.
